Mine has a slight tightspot each revolution of the centre shaft
loopedeloop, even though the gear was new check for bits of manufactoring or extra plastic on the gear. usually if mine does that ive realised ive chipped a bit of the one way gear and yes shimming does make a difference maybe try a thinner shim or shim it away from the bevel gear
