Calibrating the esc to the Transmitter, allows the esc to see throttle trigger end points. ei, full throttle and full brake. Make sure when doing this, the truck is off the floor, wheels suspended. Programming an esc is not neccessarily calibrating it. Below in the vid, he calibrates it first, then programs it.
