If it works just fine without it.... why continue to use it?

Have you adjusted the voltage back to the normal 5.5-6 volts and see if it does the same thing?

Letting it sit will probably do nothing for you. Sounds like the RX and BEC are creating some sort of abnormality causing it to go screwy.. I would get rid of the BEC....
