A lot of "waterproof" electronic options out there and they are a huge improvement for splash protection. But I still would not push my luck with any of them.
However, If you want take the risk it is the best option you can run and in some cases you can waterproof what you have to some degree with liquid electrical tape.
Just remember it protection and not immunity.
Also worth noting, if you hit the damp/wet stuff much stock up on bearings. Water is rough on them but you can get some extra mileage keeping them clean with something like WD-40 and a drop of fresh bearing oil after a wet run... especially out at the hubs where the exposure is high.
