Oops, I assumed all balance plugs are created equal. The Outside black wire on the 3 wire balance plug is your negative for the battery. The middle black one is the intermediate plug on a 2s battery (positive side of cell one and negative side of cell two), the red wire is the positive for the pack which in balancer terms is the positive for cell two. Because we are dealing with a 1 cell pack, we need to move the center pin to the positive battery lead and the red outer pin will not be connected to anything. I hope that explains it better.
The results from charging without the balance plug was 4.20 volts but the hyperion takes forever to get there because it charges then checks voltage and keeps slowly charging up to the 4.20v.
