instructions are second to none... so nothing to worry about there, if there are extra shims in with your diffs then use the dark ones, this was an update to the kit.
In terms of parts/hop ups, nothing is needed other than the aluminum servo horn which tekno sells for all three spline counts. If you really want to buy something you can get the aluminum center drive shafts, tini shock shafts and delrin shock inserts... all which are a nice upgrades but by no means a necessity, maybe best for your next rebuild. For tuning, obviously some springs but also the LRC rear brace. For the NB48 specifically, I recommend the 10 degree offset brake cam, not sure if this was a running change to the kits or just an option part but it will really help with brake setup.
