The Tekin (and pretty much all other esc's) has a 6 volt BEC so it doesn't matter what battery you run, even 12 volts, the servo and receiver will only see 6.

Definitely don't be scared. It is SO much easier to be competitive these days and this forum or local racers can answer all your questions.
