Thanks for the responses. I'm happy with my diff building, although the front one jamming was as a result of an extra shim after the front gears failed. I was hoping for better meshing but it jammed causing the casing to bind and wear away. I think the bearing might be the solution, I'll check that out. Doesn't explain why its turning from only one side though. That suggests poor meshing caused by gears wearing to me.
