The specs are probably a good place to start:

Motor Limit: 2 LiPo, 5500kV; 3 LiPo, 4000kV

XP SC900-BL ESC

Although I'd leave a little margin for error using it in a 4x4 short course, even a relatively light one like the SC104x4.

Also best to understand why your motor is about to blow up, as brushless motors should last a long time. If running too hot for example, a faster motor will only make things worse. If so work on adjusting gearing to keep temps down.
