it was a rtr scte with the losi motor/esc, which I've read are rebranded castle creations stuff
I'm gonna say you've read wrong.

And you can try a capacitor to see if that fixes your problem....the combination of the D226F and Spektrum receiver may be the issue not allowing the receiver to transfer enough voltage to the servo from the ESC's BEC.
