Dario's car had installed plates to the sides of the rear spoiler, i guess for more stability.
I theory side dams for wings make sense. Like the tips on a modern jet plane, winglets reduce the vortex caused by the low pressure drawing air around the sides of the wing, hence improving wing efficiency and thus reducing drag.
I've not quite yet mastered a method of gluing them on though and most often it's not worth the effort at club meets and the rules are strict and it's easy to cut a marshal with them or have them knocked off.
