If he's in the market to buy a new kit then the 2014 XB4 addresses the issue of the bevel gear. At this time it's a moot point to single out the bevel gears as a possible non starter for buying the buggy, as you've pointed out it's been addressed. I've had mine for 2 months and have yet to break anything.
My point was that when people had issues with the diffs before the update there were people like you claiming that it was simply operator error, that there was now way the plastic diff could be suspect. Could plastic diffs still be suspect post update, or is it still operator error? I have seen the new cars have diff issues, not to mention all the cheap plastic pin retainer cups.... Its a great car, don't get me wrong, but its far from the piece of perfection that some make it out to be....
