Rediculous!
The best way to discharge a dodgy battery is to put it in a strong salt water solution and leave it for a day or two, the battery will eventually puff as the voltage is pulled right down to almost zero, and 'hey presto', one discharged battery with no energy left in it all that can be safely recycled with other batteries.
As for stabbing them with a screwdriver etc.. WHY?
