Yes, you're right in your thinking. One thing though is if you go too soft on one end of the suspension it will do the opposite of what you think it should. If you put a really soft spring on the rear, your rear end will want to slid all over the place since the suspension will be transfering all the weight to one tire and that tire will give out. same thing for the front. I believe this is the reason Team Yokomo ran the RS green springs (the softest ones) on the rear of their cars at the worlds when using a spool.
