I think it's pretty telling that Larry felt like he could get away with more gear than the other guys in 17.5 at Snowbirds. I have to run more drag brake in the car than a belt car to get it to slow down entering corners the way I like.
The floating front gear box design definitely feels smoother exiting the corners than the original did. I believe its primary goal was to eliminate the torque steer effects. I haven't tried it in 13.5 or mod yet, but I feel like it's better in 17.5 even. It's definitely an interesting approach.
