I've seen some folks install the nylocks backwards so the nylon thread is closest to the wheel to ensure a good lock, only problem with this is the lack of a serrated edge.
Another idea if low on threads is to use a "Low Profile" lock nut similar to these if you still need to have a serrated edge:
