This Onyx esc and Hobbywing SCT Pro esc are very similar, except HW can run sensored motors. So keep in mind that the Trackstar motor and HW combo suggested is sensored, but the Onyx combo you started looking at is not.

I have that same exact Onyx 2650kv sensorless combo in a 1/8 buggy - it's durable and very fun. But I don't race, so you might prefer sensored. WHATEVER YOU DECIDE TO PURCHASE, GET A PROGRAMMING CARD!!

If you're going for 4S max and on a tight budget, I recommend this for about a hundred bucks total (prices without shipping, all from China so maybe $15 or so shipping):
$50 Turnigy SC120 esc http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Truck_ESC.html (This esc is surprisingly similar to the Onyx one you asked about. Have several, love 'em)

$8 program card http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ming_Card.html

$29 motor http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...nner_19T_.html (This motor is very similar to the Castle 1415 2400KV 3674 can size motor that many people know and love)

or this $50 larger can size motor would be a sweet fit but it's out of stock at the moment http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ess_Motor.html

The other guy's suggestion is also perfectly fine
Wow thanks! Those look like they are pretty good. I'll have to look into them.

Just pick up one of these, you get the program card, which is a major major plus.
That one looks very nice too. A little bit expensive though I must say.
