My process for lubing balls is to put a dab of silicone lube (Associated stealth Lube) slightly bigger than one of the balls in the palm of my hand then rub the balls into it. (I believe this is called the Cleveland Gayte method) Then drop the balls into the spur. That gets enough on the balls to lubricate properly without having excess on the spur that will make a mess and attract too much dust/grime. If you see grease coming off your spur you are using too much.
Ok this confirms I had way too much grease before rebuilding it
