Savox is perfectly fine. You might need a cap with some futaba and most spectrum systems but ive never needed one with airtronics.
As for upgrading to other brands, Im pretty sure thats all in the head.
This servo can be a little noisy but its performace and quality is excellent. And at only $65!
You definitely wont be losin races due to this servo.
