Yeah, stinger position has almost no effect on the pipe. If you want to measure the effective length of your exhaust, you go to the widest part. Everything after that has no effect on length (which determines the pipe's rpm range) though can effect other attributes. Google that Gordon Jennings book. Somebody usually has it posted online for free somewhere and it has some really good info on pipe design.
