Brake is preference. I set mine to just barely skid at full trigger throw.

Start with the stock slipper setting recommendation and adjust it to only slip on your track for a few feet. You will not only see and feel the slip, you'll hear it.
I will change setting depending in grip levels but that's where I start, couple feet of slip.
