I've been running a 18T at NorCal for the last 9 months without a problem. My esc is usually ~140 and the motor is usually ~160. Comparing the mA used during our last race I guess I am an aggressive driver.

The RX8 fans are fine as long as you mount the esc with zeal or something that has some cushion.
