The theory in old radios was the length of the rx antennae wire was how they "tuned" the reception and if the antennae wire crossed over itself that would effectively "cut" the wire length and hence the "tune". So, if that still applies to 2.4 then just avoid wadding it in there, a nice loop should be ok.
From what I understand, the only part that is actually the antenna (at least on mine) it the inch or so of the exposed part. The rest is just a coax cable. I was planning on coiling around a socket or something and having that antenna part on top.
I found another guy that has done this and had no issues, so I will be doing this too!
