Honestly, if your car is really good in 17.5, id start there. When I ran my TC6's in 17.5 and mod, they were probably 90-95% the same. Most of the time, theyd be the same geometry, but id run a LTC body in stock, and a Mazda in mod. And I ran a heavier diff oil for mod (~500cst stock, 1000cst mod)
13g wire is fine
You will want a fan on your ESC. And you will want more drivetrain spares on hand (belts, pullies, driveshaft couplings, etc)
On carpet yes, I see more stock class drivers running an LTC and for mod we run a Speed6 the majority of time, the only person that I know that runs a LTC in mod on carpet 99.99% of the time is Josh, I think Paul has ran an LTC on carpet his last couple of races. On asphalt LTC for both stock and mod.
