5 port is more powerfull at bottom and 3 port is more linear I guess. So in SUBWAY I use std 1st gear and using 57/21 for 2nd gear. If Im using RR engine, stock 2nd ratio is enough.
What methods of measurement do you use to gear up or gear down ? In EP, I always listen to the motor peak rpm as an indicator, when it peaks at 3/4th of the longest straight, it should be right on the spot.
In GP, things seem to be a bit more complicated since there are 1st and 2nd gears. I always ask another serpent racer to go side by side with mine on the straight to see of I need to change gear ratio. But I dont think that's the best way.
