My understanding is adding more toe slows you down a bit by adding more resistance/traction, this is really only an issue in Stock racing. Mod guys I know tend to run 4* including myself because there is enough power there that the extra resistance won't matter vs the gained traction. example on my stock 22 buggy I run 3* and am considering going down to 2*.
