INDY my take is your assessment is 2/3rds correct. You left out "track time". To be competitive there is no substitute for learning how to drive the car, adjust the radio and then progress to driving it fast and clean. Getting enough practice track time to develop these skills is not always possible in some locations of the country. Trust me that I know this, DP.
