Where do you race your car? If your local track has a store for parts, that would be your best bet.
I race 17.5 blinky, with my 64p spur, i've never stripped anything, as long as you do the mesh properly. If you want to go 48p, you're going to need to look for thinner spurs, or get flat heat screws to fit 3mm thick spur gears (48 or 64p).
