Buy the conversion, it comes with the chassis and battery hold down. Don't hesitate. It's the biggest upgrade you can make to the original car. There is literally no situation where I have heard anyone say "oh I wish I had the short chassis"
Yes you will eventually want to get a new body, but you can make the old one work. Just have to cut it a little more around the front. I did that for a little while when I was waiting for my bodies to be painted.
