a couple years ago a racer from Cleveland had a heart attack the week of the indoor champs in the hotel not during his race or marshalling but while racing was going on. He did not get a substitute as part of amateur racing at this level is "you race you win" not "you race your team sponsors and car owner win" Ask Dale Earnhardt JR how HE finished in the points in Nascar this year and how many points he lost while out for the concussion. He's substitute driver got car owner point but he did not get driver points for JR he got driver points for himself. It's not lack of compassion it's "if I wasn't racing I wouldn't care how my car finished" as it wasn't me winning it was another driver.
