It would be a HUGE difference. But you will obviously sacrifice longevity. This was an old trick "back in the good old days" when drive train efficiency was paramount due to the motor/battery wars. Nowadays, in my opinion, it's not as necessary but maybe except for the 17.5 "stock" class where there still seems to be a disparity due to battery "C" ratings and some "17.5 stock motors" are more "stock" than others...

To see for yourself, try this. Spin your ball/gear diff in it's housing without it being attached to any other gears. Then, take the bearing shields off of the ball/gear diff, motor spray all of the grease out of it, put light bearing oil in them and reinstall. Now spin them.. voila... they keep spinning with very little resistance...
