Yes it is mod 1 and no, I've never had stripping problem. I've probably landed several thousand jumps and never stripped a spur. Make sure you are setting your gear mesh with a little backlash. Use (or just imagine) a piece of paper between your pinion and spur. That much free play is necessary to keep your gears from binding. Then make sure your motor screws are all tight on the motor and mount. I hope this helps.
