no...that is not excessive at all. your actually just running it long enough to get it tuned and warmed up in my opinion. But like said heating it before starting will help it last as well. I have a REVO Platinum, with a 3.3 in it all I have done is changed the bearings and the piston, rod, and sleeve has 6 gallons on it. and it is still running. Not to say it won't blow the next time I start it but at this time it is still huffin along. It's all in how you break it in and treat it. But remember running it to rich/fat/cool...is just as bad as running it to lean/hot.
