The 1/8 nitro-buggy's need a huge track to gain advantage over a Mod 4WD EP buggy, such as a XXX-4.
At my local track, EP guys have 3-4 sec. better laptimes than 1/8 GP guys. This track is about 30 secs long. Even 2WD outruns the 1/8.
