I'd say get the kit first and run it bone stock since your getting the FT kit it has most of the upgrades that would be recommended from the original kit..... Only spares really is servo saver, and a-arms (rpm ones, stock ones warp easily) as this truck is built like a rock and can take a beating.......

Garodiscs are great if your going to stick with the stock slipper setup, however rcshox center diff has alot of owners even happier with their sc10....... From there just adjust/tune as you go, no need to spend a ton of cash up front if the stock parts work for you.......
