Lately, I cut the tube so that it doesn't touch the body. I run the antenna up the tube and bunch the remainder inside the receiver box or coil it up out of the way on the road cars. I've never had any receiver issues.

I've got an older Futaba receiver on my SC10. On this one, I am running about a 6" tall tube, but bent it back 90* about halfway up
