the 38T will put you at a 3.4 FDR so you should be fine.
Depending on motor and track I would start around 3.8 FDR (66/35). If your running a revtech put it at a 4.0(66/33)

I dont think you will need that big a pinion with a thunder power. I believe my buddy was right at at 3.8 with his. He tried to go a little more and the factory smoke came out to play.
Just start conservative and temp it as you go. I personally dont think you will need a 39 or 40 though.
Just thought I'd follow up based on what I ended up with, basically I ran out of pinions, 66/40 with up to 37.5 degree timing on my 17.5 TP, great motor, crazy 3.30 FDR, not sure how I managed it, less so considering it was during the day, and people were popping motors all around me by end of event.
