Let's assume you are talking about sub-C cells, the capacity is for each cell. Each cell is therefore 1.2 volts / 3300maH. you get 7.2 volts from 6 x 1.2v cells. The capacity does not multiply. If you are stripping an old stick pack, dont cut the output leads together, you will create a short through your wire cutters (seen this done!), cut each wire seperatly. If you are making a side by side 4-cell pack, careful pulling the cells apart, the bars used to join cells in some packs are very thin and razor sharp. If you are making a 4-cell in a stick pack shape, just take the end two cells off and join with a battery bar, strip of brass or similiar.
