Yeah, I wired up the fan right from the start directly off the battery source, but I put a plug on it for testing purpose, but as long as the battery stays plugged in the fan can always stay on.

I only unplugged it to see just how much heat soak the fan was preventing, and it turned out to be more than I expected, to the point I worry about thermal load the motor will see internally without me ever seeing or feeling it.

All this was zero ESC timing, pretesting on my 10.5 before I fit my new 17.5 and start dialing that in for a big event (never run 17.5 before), with the 10.5 though at one point I had it up to 40deg timing on the can, still running cool with the fan being on it, though also a cold night.
