Go with 4wd, shaft driven. Speed freaks have had good luck with the TC4 chassis, durable and easy to work on with a big aftermarket following. To fit 3s in most chassis will require some work on your end unless you are ok with using battery tape.

2wd will be very hard to control powerwise and limits tires options (havent seen many rubber tire pan car options) and packaging for a battery will be fun to say the least.
