40W is not enough. 60W or more.

Personally think i would have been able to do it with a tiny torch.
Heat it and quickly add tin. done. I also need a bunch of gripers.

Yes wattage is important but technique & tip go along way. I use a 3/16 flat tip for most things. Wipe the tip on a wet sponge to get the tip clear, apply a little solder to the tip -should be shiny- this helps transfer the heat. Pre-tin both surfaces. Hold the iron in one place and paint the solder on from the other side, it will be drawn to the iron. A little flux sometimes help. If you pre-tin, may times you won't need any more solder to join the two items. Heat the larger of the two pieces first then add the second. You just need a fillet, not a blob. Fast in and out works the best. Good luck.
