For fun, I thought I would try a ball diff after reading the great ball diff thread and video on rctech. Many setup sheets say the diff is set up tight or very tight. Does this mean the spring is fully compressed?

In my case I could slip the diff by hand with the tires installed until the spring was just fully collapsed. I can feel the torque on the hex driver ramp way up after the spring coils bind. I was afraid the balls would get dented, but it feels smooth and ran fine for a full race night. I checked the diff during practice and between each race and it didn't seem to loosen up.

My initial newbie take on ball diffs is that there doesn't appear to a very large range of adjustment on these things. Am I doing something wrong?

How do you check the tightness of the diff? Spin one wheel and watch how many rotations it freewheels?

Thanks in advance.
