Check into the trackmate system. I race at 2 local tacks that use it and works great. I just bought a setup myself to use for parking lot races. About $500 gets you started, and transponders are $25 each. It's an ir system, but have witnessed it read through painted bodies, and a car sliding under the tower upside down.
