8mm of spacers on the shock shaft and outside the shock body is a bit more than I expected to avoid outdrive problems...

I have the boots, rubber bump stops and 3mm of clips.
When I press hard on the suspension arm the driveshaft almost but doesn't quite press on the outdrive. There are no scoring marks on any of my driveshafts from catching on the outdrives.
If you don't use boots add more clips.
The 4x4 I bought 2nd hand had no clips and the out drives are so wobbly I think it would need new gearbox case halfs if I were to rebuild it, not just diff cases.
