There are a few companies that sell bearings for a buck. IMO not worth my time to tear them apart and clean them.

Once the bearing feels slightly gritty or does not turn smoothly, i replace them. They are cheap enough that you can toss them and forget it.
Unless of course youre using ceramic, in which case, youre hardcore and can afford $100+ in bearings alone =)
