For 30% use the standard .3mm shims. I run 25% with .2 shim. 97T or P4 good plug choice, those T3 were pretty erratic, unsure about the new batch. I would change the rod shortly just for peace of mind, unsure about pitting of piston, if it is very minor then maybe it was under shimmed and too lean. If it is quite bad i would be stripping the motor, check the bearings etc.
Right then, raced it yesterday with good performance from the engine, but not the driver

Nothing could reel me in down the straight, faster than most - on a par with the rest in my heat. Took 5 seconds off my best lap times 51 -> 46 seconds (after proper tuning).
I had a Kyosho team driver tune it up - he owns the LHS I bought the engine from. He had said to put all the shims in for 30% and we could de shim from there if required, but mindful of your advice, I compromised and went for .40mm. Ran great anyway and I can always go down to .30mm if I need to.
Here's the pic of the pitting. Button seems fine as you can see. I've ordered a new conrod + wrist pins and will check the engine over and polish the top of the piston when I do the conrod.
