Also, do I want the plastic grille thing facing the motor or facing the electronics? (direction of air)
I have a mini fan on mine. I used servo tape, but will shoegoo it as soon as I notice it getting loose. The fan sits between my motor and ESC. Its sitting so that the air generated is blown straight into the top of the can.

I hooked mine into the receiver. If you plug it straight into the battery then you have the fan running as soon as you plug in the battery to the ESC.

I just bought a hitec receiver plug lead and soldered the plug lead to the fan leads. Mucho easier then crimping.
