When I was in a pinch and couldn't get the blue o-rings I used HPI red o-rings
they work fantastic and are quite inexpensive (like $3.00 for 8). The HPI out and inner diameter is slightly bigger than the Schui o-rings.

Tamiya are smaller, Top blues are smaller...X brand are way smaller...
Associated red o-rings may work but haven't sized them up.

I personally would not run the shock without the lower spacer, the spacer is working as a guide. Without it the shaft will sway allowing the piston to rub the inner shock cylinder.
Just my opinion of course. Run'em any way you want to build them.
