Sounds like a setup issue to me... If you lose 2 tenths in each corner, and there are 8 turns required to make each lap, you're behind 1.6 seconds per lap. It's easy to get lapped losing that much time each time around the course, even when you're not hitting anything. The other thing you'll notice is that once the car handles well, it'll make any motor look faster since you're maintaining more corner speed.
