You can find good deals used but most used cars need parts from the start. $500 is not a big enough budget to get into nitro. You can spend $250-300 on a good used car $150 on servos, $200 on a budget engine, $100 on a budget radio and you are already at $700. You still need a Rx battery, fuel, tools and a charger. Not to mention it will break or need something almost every time you run it. I don't think $500 is a realistic budget to get started.
